LOL!!!

Time was when if a man touches a lady's hand in public he has to marry her to uphold her virtue and honor. And so women keep a very generous distance from avid suitors who might take this 'shortcut' to marrying the girl of their dreams. Very eligible bachelors also take this precaution. An unwanted woman (not necessarily ugly) just might hug him in public and he will be obliged to marry her.

My Grandma, a nurse during the war, in fact accused by grandpa of doing just that. She claimed she was admiring a beautiful sunset from a corridor window in a hospital - where my Grandpa was the chief medical officer - when my Grandpa sneaked up behind her and held her hands and when she turned to look who held her hands he gave her a peck. And this was witnessed by an old nun who was also the Chief Nurse and she admonished them to get married immediately. They were happily married, no doubt about it.

How time and people have changed. You're right El/Jay, "I'm pregnant" is becoming a common marriage proposal in my country too.
