Years ago, when he was an amateur, a friend told me he's not going places. After watching him for several games, I almost agreed. His style then was to allow his opponent to hit him with his opponent's strongest punch and if he could take it, he'll go all over his opponent in a flurry of arms until the poor fellow was knocked down.

I thought that was stupid, and I still think it is. But his American coach must have thought him a thing or two, like not giving the adversary any chance to hit him. But then, before his coach Roach came in, he had matured and he (Pacquia) must have realized the stupidity of allowing the opponent a first shot.

We have a saying in the Philippines, in the vernacular it goes like this: 'ang taong hindi tumanaw sa pinanggalingan, ay hindi makararating sa patutunguhan' (a person who do not look behind his origin/past will not reach his avowed destination).

This fellow, Mr. Pacquiao is going back to his roots and build his community as a lawmaker. I am not a boxing afficionado, I didn't even watch his latest fight (the replay only), but the guy is not just a boxer and I hope he reaches his dreams, whatever they may be.
